"She loved the smell of wet dirt the way others might love the smell of roses" Dawn Hewitt
Deb Cole
All my life I have experimented with various art media—including charcoal drawing, oil and acrylic painting, glass mosaic, and stained glass. I discovered clay in the early 2000s and immediately fell in love with its soft sculptural qualities and its wide range of potential forms, from everyday functional items to those of pure artistic expression.
I enjoy creating functional pottery on the wheel--hand building human forms and abstract sculptures and making jewelry and tiles, often with botanical and textural qualities. I use a variety of clays (stoneware, porcelain and raku) and firing methods (reduction, soda and raku) to play and learn in order to express myself through this medium as both art and craft.
